Our Laurel room has been designed as a space for children to further nurture their desire to do things for themselves, fostering autonomy and promoting confidence and a sense of competence. In the Montessori educational setting, children are encouraged to work independently, learn by observing others, explore their space freely, and express their curiosity and creativity, areas that are further enhanced by having a mixed age room.
Our environment is rich in new concepts such as language, numeracy and culture, with educators using correct terminology when communicating, instead of baby talk or slang words, as the exposure helps children develop a broad vocabulary and a sound understanding of their environment.
Laurel room has a strong focus on self-care to promote toilet awareness and independence in personal hygiene. Rest time is always available to children as this is often the time children transition out of their day sleep. The spaces also feature areas for outdoor activities to help children work in an environment that suits their needs. Appropriately sized tables and chairs enable them to participate in individual activities, as well as preparing, serving, eating and cleaning up their snacks and meals.
